Around the Dam,there are historic sites where relics of Buddhist excavation dating back to the 3rd century were found.

The museum houses significant relics of Buddhist culture and art that make it an important place to visit during a tour of Nagarjuna sagar. Mahachaitya, the main stupa of museum contains relics of Buddha.

Nagarjuna Sagar is easily accessible by Rail, Road & Air. The nearest airport is in Hydrabad which is about 150km away. The nearest Railway station is in Macherial which is about 27km away. Regular buses connect Nagarjuna Sagar with cities like Hydrabad, warangal, Guntur & Vijaywada.
